On November 19, 2024, at approximately 3:35 AM, a fire incident occurred near Kulawe Bridge on No. 2 Highway in Ngapyaema Village, Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region. A NISSAN DIESEL fuel tanker (dark green), capable of carrying 3,100 gallons, driven by U Aung Phyo Htet, experienced a fire. The fire reportedly started when the battery ignited during engine startup and came into contact with leaked fuel from the outlet, resulting in a fire outbreak. In response, firefighters from Thanlyin and Thaketa Township Fire Stations, along with auxiliary firefighters, deployed to the scene with 2 command vehicles, 7 fire engines, 5 water bowsers, and 2 support vehicles. The fire was successfully extinguished by 4:18 AM. The fire caused significant damage, including the destruction of the tanker’s cabin, four upper compartment tanks, two tires, and approximately 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel. It was reported that the driver, U Aung Phyo Htet, is now facing legal action under Case No. (Pa) 391/2024 in accordance with Section 285 of the Penal Code at Thanlyin Township Police Station.
