On 25 August 2026, at about 6:15 a.m. a section of the Nyaungdon Kyun Embankment (a branch of the Ayeyarwady River), located in Chaung Phyar Village, Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyarwady Region, collapsed due to increased water erosion along the irrigation embankment. The collapse occurred between embankment mileposts 11/6 and 11/7, affecting an area approximately 300 feet in length and 60 feet in width. In order to prevent the embankment from breaching and water from flowing into the surrounding area, at approximately 7:30 a.m. on 10 September 2026, firefighters from Yangon Region, Maubin District Fire Station, and auxiliary firefighters from Nyaungdon Township Fire Station, in cooperation with the relevant organizations and local residents, have been carrying out reinforcement works at the collapsed section of the embankment, including installing bamboo stakes, placing sandbags, and installing support posts.
