On May 17, 2026, at approximately 7:50 AM, a fire broke out at the "DIVINE ENERGY Co., Ltd. Fuel Storage Station and Retail Shop" located on Bo Bwa Yeik Thar Road, Sone Khaung Kaw Pat  Ward, Kalon Village, Myeik Township, Tanintharyi Region. This shop was owned by 58-year-old U Tin Ko Ko. The fire started  while a white NISSAN fuel tanker (License Plate No. 5P/2469) was preparing to transfer fuel into the facility's storage tank. An electrical short circuit originating from the vehicle's alternator ignited nearby fuel vapors, creating a blaze that rapidly spread from the tanker's cabin to an adjacent 10,000-gallon capacity diesel storage tank. Firefighters from the Myeik District, Township and auxiliary fire brigade members, along with relevant organizations, extinguished the fire. The firefighting and rescue operation utilized a total fleet of 1 administrative vehicle, 13 fire engines, 11 water bowsers, 1 search and rescue vehicle, and 16 ambulances. Through coordinated containment efforts, the responding teams successfully brought the fire under control and completely extinguished it by 9:30 AM. The incident resulted in severe casualties and property loss. Two individuals sustained fatal injuries: U Soe Nge (50 years old), a customer who was refueling at the station, and U Zin Lin Myat (37 years old), the driver of the NISSAN fuel tanker, both died from severe burns. Additionally, a fuel station employee, U Zar Ni Soe (28 years old), sustained critical, life-threatening burn injuries, while another employee, U Ye Zaw Aung (18 years old), was also affected. Emergency medical teams from the Shin Than Chin Social Support Association provided immediate assistance, transporting the victims and casualties to Myeik General Hospital via ambulance. An assessment of the property damage revealed that the fire destroyed the driver's cabin of the white NISSAN fuel tanker and 2 barrels of gasoline. It also caused a cracked windshield on an adjacent white DONGFENG fuel tanker (License Plate No. 5R/6881), destroyed 15 barrels of diesel within the storage facility, and consumed two motorcycles (one Honda PCX and one Dream Shwe Hlaing). Following the initial investigation, the Myeik Myo Ma Police Station has officially registered a legal case against the deceased driver, U Zin Lin Myat, under Case No. (Pa) 70/2026, invoking Sections 285, 304-A, and 338 of the Penal Code for negligence regarding combustible material, causing death by negligence, and causing grievous hurt.
