On 6 May 2026, at around 3:10 a.m., a fire broke out at a two-storey residential house that owned by Daw Soe Soe (58 years old), located on Thupayon West (4) Street, Thupayon (1) Ward, Thaketa Township, Yangon Region. The fire started after a mosquito coil, which was lit without a proper base plate, caused flames to spread to a carpet underneath. According to the report, firefighters from the Thaketa Township Fire Station, along with auxiliary fire members, responded with three fire engines and four water bowser vehicles and extinguished the fire at 3:27 a.m. Due to the fire, Daw Soe Soe’s husband, U Win Htay (55 years old), suffered from smoke inhalation and was reported deceased. He was transported to Yangon General Hospital by the Aung Naing Thu Social Assistance Association ambulance service. Additionally, two 10×60-foot two-storey houses and their contents were destroyed by fire. It is also reported that legal action has been taken against the homeowner, Daw Soe Soe (58 years old), by the Thaketa Myoma Police Station under Case No. (P)263/2026 in accordance with Sections 285 and 304-A of the Penal Code.
