On 2 March 2026, at approximately 2:30 a.m, a fire broke out at a  two-storey residential house with a corrugated iron roof, brick walls, and wooden flooring, owned by U Nyunt Kyi and rented by U Htay Win, located on TTC Daung Zayat Monastery Street, Zay Kyo area, Mawlamyine Township, Mon State. The fire started inside a bedroom due to overheating of an electric kettle that had been left switched on, which then ignited nearby clothes and caused the fire to spread. According to the report,  firefighters from Head of the State of  Mon State Fire Services Department and Mawlamyine District/Township Fire Stations, along with auxiliary firefighters and members of social rescue organizations, responded to the scene with four fire engines and nine water bowsers. The fire was successfully extinguished at approximately 2:58 a.m. Due to the fire, U Htay Win (77 years old) and Daw Hla (60 years old) died, while Ma Moe Pwint War (28 years old) sustained non-critical burn injuries to her right arm and right side of her back. and  (20x35)-foot, two-storey house was completely destroyed.  Mawlamyine Township, Mupun Area Police Station has opened a case No. (P) 40/2026 under Sections 285, 304(a), and 337 of the Penal Code against the deceased tenant U Htay Win (77 years old).
