On 31 January 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., an accident occurred on the Yangon–Nay Pyi Taw Expressway, between mileposts (32/2) and (32/3), in Bago Township, Bago Region. A white TOYOTA PROBOX taxi, driven by U Tin Htun Naing and traveling from Yangon to Nay Pyi Taw, was struck at the rear while being overtaken by a black TOYOTA LEVIN, driven by U Thet Ko Win, which was traveling in the same direction. As a result of the collision, the TOYOTA PROBOX lost control and crashed into a palm tree on the road median. Upon receiving the report, firefighting personnel from the Bonetgyi Expressway Fire Station, in cooperation with relevant organizations, responded with one fire engine and carried out search and rescue operations, which were completed at 4:20 p.m. Due to the incident, the front portion of the TOYOTA PROBOX was severely damaged Due to the accident, a woman was killed and 3 people were injured and all injured persons were transported to Bago Township Public Hospital by vehicles of the Shinthan Kwin Social Welfare Association. It is reported that U Tin Htun Naing (48 years old), the driver of the TOYOTA PROBOX, was killed, and U Thet Win Ko (45 years old), the driver of the TOYOTA LEVIN, has been charged by the Bonetgyi Expressway Police Station under Case No. (Vehicle) 1/2026, Sections 304-A, 338, and 337 of the Penal Code, and legal action has been taken.
