On March 28, 2025, at approximately 12:51 p m, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale struck with its epicenter located about 21 kilometers northeast of the Mandalay Seismic Station and around 20 kilometers northeast of Mandalay City. The epicenter was at a latitude of 22.09 degrees North, longitude 96.23 degrees East, and at a depth of 10 kilometers. As a result, on May 11, 2025, it was reported that search and rescue members from the Fire Services Department were actively engaged in cleanup operations in Mandalay Region, where damage and destruction had occurred due to the earthquake.
