On 30 July 2026, at  approximately 10:42 p.m. due to heavy rainfall in Thagaukchaung Village Tract, Laymyethna Township, Hinthada District, Ayeyarwady Region, the water level of the Ngawun River rose, the Ngawun Embankment and flow through the embankment. As a result, a section of the embankment subsided, causing flooding in nearby villages and wards. On 8 August 2026, under the leadership of the Deputy Director-General of the Myanmar Fire Services Department Headquarters, search and rescue personnel from the Yangon Region and Ayeyarwady Region Fire Services Departments, in cooperation with social welfare organizations, donors, and relevant organizations, carried out embankment repair and reinforcement works. They also provided life jackets, relief supplies, and clean drinking water, and assisted in rescue and evacuation operations for residents in the affected villages and wards.
