On April 20, 2026, at around 8:30 a.m., a fire broke out at the “Sumprabum” restaurant in Swut Nguai Ward, Tanai Township, Kachin State. The restaurant is owned by U Kaung Myat Aung (34 years old). The fire started while the cook, U Aung Gyi, was preparing meals using a wood-fired stove and temporarily left the kitchen unattended. As a result, the fire spread to a nearby bamboo wall.Upon receiving the report, firefighters from the Tanai Township Fire Station and auxiliary fire brigade members responded with three fire engines and extinguished the fire at around 9:30 a.m.Due to the fire, the following properties were destroyed: one zinc-roofed and bamboo-walled kitchen, one zinc-roofed shop room, one single-storey male staff dormitory with a zinc roof and timber walls, one single-storey male staff dormitory with a zinc roof and brick walls, and one single-storey female staff dormitory with a zinc roof and bamboo walls. Additionally, one Honda Airwave vehicle (No. 9G/3278) and one Toyota Mark II (without license plate) were also destroyed by the fire.It is reported that the cook, U Aung Gyi (26 years old), has been charged by Tanai Myoma Police Station under Case No. (P) 11/2026, Section 285 of the Penal Code, and legal action has been taken against him.
